'Living a Nightmare': Loved Ones of Unaccounted For Teens Desperately Seek Information After Ski Resort Blaze
The relatives of teenagers missing after a tragic blaze at a bar in a Switzerland's ski resort are enduring an agonising period of uncertainty for confirmed information and appealing for any details about their loved ones online.
The blaze engulfed the Le Constellation bar in Cans-Montana, located in the Swiss Alps of the Valais region, in the small hours of New Year's Day. Circulated images show the roof structure being engulfed in flames as bottles with sparklers are held aloft.
Officials have stated that it could take considerable time to formally name the victims of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of numerous partygoers and wounded another over a hundred. Officials noted on the latest update that the majority of the injured have been accounted for, with efforts ongoing to locate the final individuals.
In the waiting period, relatives have been using online platforms to appeal for information about their loved ones who were in attendance that evening.
Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing
The location of Swiss national Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an appeal from his parent.
The who lives of a town near Lausanne, told a local newspaper that she had gone back to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his other parent did the same in the capital, but could not find him.
"I'm living a nightmare, a nightmare. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in intensive care. It's horrific," she said.
She continued that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering nearly half their bodies. "It's unspeakable; they experienced an absolute nightmare."
The Italian government has confirmed that a number of of its citizens remain missing.
One of those is Emanuele Galeppini, a 16-year-old junior golfer, originally from Genoa but now living in Dubai.
The Italian Golf Federation has released a tribute that he is deceased, without directly referencing the tragedy, honoring a "young athlete who represented dedication and authentic values."
His father, told media that his son was at the bar and was last heard from around the new year. An official spokesperson has clarified that a formal confirmation of his death is awaited.
Additional Cases
Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is likewise among the missing. His mother told reporters that he had been on holiday but had gone out with friends and found himself at the venue.
"A companion said they ran away after the fire started and that he had his phone with him, but then at a certain point he they were separated," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive gold chain.
One of his educators said, "He was known for his good nature and smile, alongside great responsibility. Every time ask if get me a coffee."
Alice Kallergis, who holds both Greek and Swiss citizenship but lives full-time in the country, was also at the bar on that night, according to media.
Her brother has shared an appeal on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the teenager or the three friends she was with, who are also unaccounted for.
Consular authorities from her country of origin say they are continuing to monitor the developments.
