Explosion Takes Three Police Officers During Eviction Operation in Northern Italy
A trio of officers were killed and at least 15 additional individuals got wounded in what appears to be intentional blast caused by gas at a country home in northern Italy.

The detonation was triggered as law enforcement and fire personnel approached the residence close to Verona to carry out an court-ordered eviction for two brothers and a sister aged in their 50s and 60s.
The three officers killed belonged to the Carabinieri military police.
Arrests and Aftermath
Two individuals were taken into custody at the scene and a third person who ran away subsequent to the incident was located not long after. Each of them have been admitted to medical facility.
The detonation could be audible some 5km (3 miles) away and footage from the scene showed the property left as a mass of wreckage.
“This moment calls for sorrow,” stated the Interior Minister Matteo Piantedosi, who noted that attempts had been made to remove the brother and sister trio in the past.
Financial Context
The head of the Veneto area, Luca Zaia, said the property was under an removal notice due to unpaid amounts accrued by the three owners.
Conflict resolution experts had been sent to talk with the siblings who had secured themselves into the property. When the police came shortly after 03:00 (01:00 GMT), investigators suspect a family member caused the detonation.
“As we went inside, we encountered a completely deranged action,” local police chief Claudio Papagno informed reporters.
“A gas cylinder had been set off, and the detonation precisely impacted our members,” he added.
Molotov cocktails were also discovered at the property, the interior minister said.
Casualties and Damage
The wounded by the blast consisted of eleven more officers of the military police as well as a trio of personnel of Italy's state police and a emergency responder.
According to the prosecuting attorney, the property was in a derelict state and had was without power.
He believed the explosion had occurred on a level above the doorway and informed journalists it was a “intentional and planned killing”. Just prior to the incident, he mentioned personnel had “detected a whistling noise, likely the gas cylinders being activated”.

“All of us understood the scenario was critical,” local residents told Italian media, noting that the family members had in the past stated to “blow themselves up” rather than be evicted.
