Chiefs Confirm Domestic Violence Allegations Connected to Wide Receiver the Athlete
The Kansas City Chiefs issued a statement Wednesday night stating they are aware of claims of abuse circulated in online accounts by a ex-partner of player Rashee Rice and had been in communication with the NFL.
The organization omitted the name of Rice by name in their announcement and noted they would have “nothing more to add at this time”.
Allegations Posted on Social Media
The woman, who also did not mention the athlete directly, posted a set of images on social media that seemed to depict signs of physical abuse. She did say the individual in question was the parent of her kids, and reports indicate she has two children with the football player, whom the Chiefs drafted in the second round.
Police Reports Currently Not on File
No police reports were on file in Overland Park, Kansas where the incident is said to have occurred.
Player's Recent Legal Issues
Rice was absent for the initial part of this season following an league-mandated ban for his involvement in causing a crash on a Texas roadway that resulted in several individuals injured. Rice was sentenced a month of incarceration and five years’ probation after pleading guilty to felony charges.
Statistically, Rice finished the year with 53 receptions for 571 yards and five TDs as the Kansas City finished with a losing record and failed to qualify for the postseason for the first time in a decade.
